Am. & SKC Ch. Kiwaliks Vykon Indiana Jones, CD, ROM
"Indy"
Sire: Ch. Uyak Bison Bobby
Dam: Ch. Kiwalik’s Miacis of Nerak, ROM
Indy was born in 1985, bred by Terry Sewell of Kiwalik Kennels in Maryland. He rode all the way back to Georgia on the lap of my friend Nancy Kaye in my little Toyota Celica. When we arrived home, it was extremely late so I put him in an exercise pen in the garage. He cried so hard that he sounded like a donkey, so I finally took him out of the pen and rocked him to sleep in my old rocking chair. It was the start of a 12 year bond that I’ll never forget.
Indy’s championship came easily and he started placing in the Group rings at a very young age. I specialed him for a short time and he won 24 group placements over his career. He was #5 in the nation one year. Indy was an impressive big black boy with a hilarious goofy temperament and was adored by all who met him. In addition to being an outstanding show dog, he was our house pet and taught my two oldest granddaughters how to walk by holding
onto his fur.

Indy and his litter sisters Mona & Kiowa (Ch. Kiwalik’s Nomi of Excalibur, CD, ROM and Ch. Kiwalik’s Kiowa) made a major impact on our breeding program. Indy was the sire of 20 AKC Champions including Group winners & placers, Grand Sweepstakes winners, National Specialty AOM’s, and obedience title-holders. His son, Australian Ch. Vykon’s Cheechako of Diomede was the top BIS-winning malamute in Western Australia and the foundation for that successful kennel.
His litters with two of the late Billie Stewart’s bitches became the foundation for Wayeh Kennels. The breeding of Margaret Cleek’s foundation bitch to Indy began a 25 year friendship and history of producing top quality malamutes at Shandael. Margaret’s current stud dog, Ch. Shandael’s Sampson, CGC, is a product of generations of linebreeding on Indy and his sisters, and we are both exceedingly proud of him and what he is producing himself.
Every single dog we own has Indy somewhere in his or her pedigree. We were heartbroken when Indy left us in 1997, but whenever I see a particular twinkle in the eye of a mischievous Vykon puppy, I know who to blame.
